May 20, 2025 - LACS Statement on Register Shira Perlmutter

Two months ago, on March 20th, members of the Los Angeles entertainment industry and copyright community had the opportunity to come together at Register Shira Perlmutter’s annual luncheon presentation, “Copyright and the California Coast.” Los Angeles is a major contributor to the national body of content protected by copyright law. Our community supports the unbiased and apolitical application of copyright law.  We commend Register Perlmutter’s impeccable service in her stewardship of The United States Copyright Office, including in its longstanding role as the expert advisor to Congress on matters of copyright law and policy. It is critical to our nation that the Register of Copyrights remains a non-partisan, substantive position so that the Register and the Office can continue to maintain their vital role in our copyright system.
